At LAWFORD CLOTHING, we occasionally introduce and sell carefully selected goods and
accessories from Japan and overseas.
This time, we are introducing the "Deck," which is produced by“ASAHI SHOES,” a brand that continues to refine the
vulcanized method, a major process in sneaker manufacturing that is rare in Japan.
Based on US-made deck shoes,
these deck shoes use a last that inherits the beautiful shape of the original,
and feature a wave-patterned outsole that provides excellent grip even on wet roads,
making them a true symbol of deck shoes. The upper is made from 12-ounce canvas,
and because it is sewn without the use of adhesives, it fits comfortably against the skin
and wraps around the foot like a sock, providing a reassuring fit.
ABOUT ASAHI SHOES
Founded in 1892 in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, this shoe factory has supported shoe culture for over 120 years.
It uses the "vulcanized method," a major process in sneaker manufacturing that is rare in Japan.
The vulcanized method involves molding the upper and sole with raw rubber while it is still soft, placing it in a special oven,
and applying high heat and pressure. Through this vulcanization process,
the raw rubber gains elasticity and the upper and sole are firmly bonded together.
This method dramatically reduces the risk of the rubber peeling off,
making the shoes easier to maintain.
