At LAWFORD CLOTHING, we occasionally introduce and sell carefully selected goods and
accessories from Japan and overseas.
This time, we are introducing the "Deck," which is produced by“ASAHI SHOES,” a brand that continues to refine and perfect
the vulcanized method, a major process in sneaker manufacturing that is rare in Japan.
Based on US-made deck shoes,
these deck shoes use a last that inherits the beautiful shape of the original shoes.
The outsole features wave-shaped grooves that provide excellent grip even on wet roads,
making it a true hallmark of deck shoes. The upper is made from 12-ounce canvas and
is stitched without the use of adhesives, allowing it to mold comfortably to the foot
and wrap around the foot like a sock for a secure, comfortable fit.
ABOUT ASAHI SHOES
Founded in Kurume City, Fukuoka Prefecture, in 1892, this shoe factory has supported shoe culture for over 120 years.
It uses the "vulcanized method," a major process in sneaker manufacturing that is rare in Japan.
The vulcanized method involves molding the upper and sole with raw rubber while it is still soft, then placing it in a special oven and applying high heat and pressure. Through this vulcanization process,
the raw rubber gains the elasticity of cured rubber, and the upper and sole are firmly bonded together.
This method dramatically reduces sole separation and makes the shoes easier to maintain.
